Palaeostigma robusta

Locality: Howieson's Poort
Age: Mid Devonian
Holotype: PRE/F/7554
Genus Distribution: Gondwana

Palaeostigma are quite unique amongst Devonian lycopods, particularly in South Africa, as they are only ever found as impressions, suggesting a fleshy membrane that is eroded away easily (1). robusta .is based on three stem specimens from Howieson's Poort, with rudimentry leaves and relatively large granulae (bulbs)

c.f. Flabellopteris loccocanensis ("Dutoitia maraisia")

Locality: Howieson's Poort
Age: Mid Devonian
Holotype: i.s
Genus Distribution: Gondwana

A specimen described as a small erect gracile plant with dichotomising axes devoid of any leaf-like appendages, generally lacking any ornamentation (1). the sporangia can be described as ellipsoidal, with arching axes. This was originally described as belonging to the "Dutoitia" Genus by Plumstead (1967),  recent studies of Waterloo Farm material suggest that is may be comparitive to Flabellopteris loccocanensis (2).
