Palaeostigma robusta
Locality: Howieson's Poort Age: Mid Devonian Holotype: PRE/F/7554 Genus Distribution: Gondwana Palaeostigma are quite unique amongst Devonian lycopods, particularly in South Africa, as they are only ever found as impressions, suggesting a fleshy membrane that is eroded away easily (1). robusta .is based on three stem specimens from Howieson's Poort, with rudimentry leaves and relatively large granulae (bulbs) |

Locality: Howieson's Poort Age: Mid Devonian Holotype: i.s Genus Distribution: Gondwana A specimen described as a small erect gracile plant with dichotomising axes devoid of any leaf-like appendages, generally lacking any ornamentation (1). the sporangia can be described as ellipsoidal, with arching axes. This was originally described as belonging to the "Dutoitia" Genus by Plumstead (1967), recent studies of Waterloo Farm material suggest that is may be comparitive to Flabellopteris loccocanensis (2). |
